About EIF

EIF's vision of philanthropy is based on helping society benefit from the innovation and prosperity of the electronics industries. Since 1975, the Foundation has played a major role in addressing one of society's most pressing concerns - the creation of a skilled workforce. Today, the Foundation's top priority is to advance math and science education to help young people prepare for jobs in the 21st century. Through EIF's innovative new programs, electronics companies have the opportunity to directly impact education in their own communities, demonstrate strong corporate citizenship, help to bridge the digital divide, and create the workforce that will drive tomorrow's innovation and success.

A Record of Achievement

The Electronic Industries Foundation continues to build on the success and experience of over two decades of collaboration with Alliance member companies and other prominent organizations. Since its founding, EIF has;

  • Helped hundreds of teenagers improve critical thinking, math, science and team building skills through Project Homepage, the Online Science Fair of the 21st Century.
  • Awarded eighty-three scholarships for the pursuit of undergraduate degrees in engineering and other fields vital to the success of the electronics industries.
  • Led development of a definitive statement of skill standards for technicians working in the high-tech environment, Raising the Standard: Electronics Technician Skills for Today and Tomorrow.
  • Helped over 15,000 individuals with disabilities find meaningful jobs both inside and outside the electronics industries through a model national job placement program operated in over eighteen communities.
  • Led development of the EIA/EIF Resource Guide for Accessible Design of Consumer Electronics.
  • Played a major role in building awareness of the importance of accessible technology and promoting the industry's achievements in this field.
  • Compiled and published important demographic data on persons with disabilities such as Extend Their Reach: Interpreting the Numbers.

Foundation Operations

The Electronic Industries Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization located in Arlington, VA in the headquarters of the Electronic Industries Alliance. Working daily, side-by-side with the staff of the Alliance and its sectors, the Foundation is able to tie its work closely to EIA's 2100 member companies and the philanthropic goals of the electronics industry. The Foundation's operating budget is approximately $1 million annually, with revenues generated through tax-deductible corporate contributions and executive donations, public and private grants, and special events. Each year EIA publishes Philanthropic Rewards an annual report of accomplishments and recognition for the companies and industry executives whose financial generosity helps to support EIF activities.
